Still Alive and Kicking
We have been having quite the busy life. Brenden is enjoying his summer school program. He is in a class with two of his friends. Brenden wanted the Indiana Jones Lego game, in fact his exact words were, "Mommy, I really, really need it." He earned it by have exceptional behavior and helping Mom while Dad was at scout camp. Brenden loves playing it with his dad where he always has to be Indy. He also really loves to play Mario Kart and can do pretty good, when he takes the race seriously.
Ainsley had a blister on the bottom of her foot. It was tender, itchy and growing larger, which constituted a visit to the doctor. When the doctor saw it, he opened it and took a culture. She screamed as he worked on her foot, but enjoyed the pink bandaging he gave her. Later that day, as Ainsley was running around, she worked the bandaging off so Mommy replaced it. Well, shortly after that, while Mom was fixing dinner, Ainsley took all the dressing and bandaging up to her room with a pair of scissors and cut it all into little pieces. She told us she was making a dress. She was quite disappointed when all she got after that was a bandaid on her foot, and she had to wear a sock over top to keep it on. She refused to wear a sock on the other foot and ran around for a couple of days with only one sock on. The culture came back positive for Strep A, so Ainsley is currently taking a very nasty smelling antibiotic. At least, so far, she is taking it alright, as long as we wave a piece of chocolate in front of her.
Capri is nursing, but not well. Mom still has to pump after she nurses to supplement. Most feeding sessions last anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Of course Brenden and Ainsley have discovered that during these feeding sessions Mom is a little tied down and they will take full advantage of those opportunities on occasion. We are grateful that Capri is making progress and growing. She weighed 9 lbs 11 oz last Friday at Lactation. We know the Lord is blessing her.
Brenden started his summer kindergarten program today. He had so much fun. When we arrived at the school, he went running into the building as he waved goodbye to us. At least he was happy to see us after school.
Shad is at scout camp this week. It should be an adventure as today was Mom's first day alone with the three kids. So far, so good. Let's see what the next few days bring.
Capri went to the doctor for her well check on Tuesday and weighed in at 9 pounds 4 ounces. She was also 22 1/2 inches long. Capri has gotten better with the nursing. She is actually doing it, but we still have a little more work. We stay encouraged because she keeps making improvements. Capri also loves to be held. She will express her displeasure if she is left alone for too long, but Mom doesn't mind ( most of the time).
Brenden and Ainsley are finding new and improved ways to drive Mom nuts. I attribute it to being stuck indoors for the past couple of weeks along with the adjustment to a new baby and less attention from Mom. It has been good for them. Where I am spending so much time getting Capri to nurse, Brenden and Ainsley have learned to do more things for themselves, and they also help each other. Brenden will reach things for Ainsley that Mom used to get for her. Ainsley has been a great helper too. She is getting to be quite the expert at packing the diaper bag. She will get diapers, wipes and burp cloths for me and put them in the diaper bag. She has also been very helpful at cleaning up the floor, on occasion. Ainsley loves to lay out blankets on the floor so Mom can lay Capri down, as well as fetching diapers and wipes and disposing of the dirty ones.
